18th Century Four Panel Mule Chest
This beautiful example of a large, oak 18th century mule chest is finely decorated with marquetry panels showing stylised flowers and birds. The chest also has marquetry chequered inlays. There are three drawers with original handles on two. One handle is missing on one of the drawers pending restoration. The chest has original hinges and a candle box. Each panel is quartersawn highlighting the quality of the piece and bringing out the rays in the grain of the oak.
Inside, the chest is clean and structurally strong. This is a rare and spectacular example of 18th century craftsmanship.
