Spitfire Mk.Ia. Original Oil Painting by Philip Marchington
Original oil painting by British artist, Philip Marchington. It measures 30" x 16" and depicts a Spitfire from Unit: 234 Sqn, RAF, Serial: AZ-H (N3277) coming in to land on a grass field. Oil on canvas, signed by the artist in bottom right corner.
In this painting he really captures the moment just before the undercarriage hits the ground with the flaps down and the airfield zipping past. It is a very nice painting with good detail, such as the open canopy. (The the Spitfire's long nose obscured the pilot's view when all three wheels were on the ground.)
Philip Marchington was born in 1934 and is most renowned for painting military aviation and naval scenes. The painting is unframed.
